Linn County Sheriff Bruce Riley reports yesterday at 6:58 p.m., the Linn County 9-1-1 dispatch center received a call of a suspicious package at the Linn County Mental Health building, located at 445 SW 3rd Avenue in Albany.
Deputies responded to the location and found a one foot by one foot Styrofoam container resting near a door located on the 3rd Avenue side of the building. Linn County Deputies and Albany Police Department closed 3rd Avenue and the east parking lot of the Mental Health building.
Deputies learned that a Mental Health employee was closing the building and discovered the container outside of the door. It was unknown what time the package was placed at the location. Linn County Deputies contacted the Oregon State Police Bomb Squad who responded to the location with a Salem Police Department bomb technician. The package was x-rayed by the technicians and was found to be empty. The roadway was re-opened at approximately three hours later.
