Linn County Sheriff Bruce Riley gives the following update to the previous press release:
Linn County Sheriff’s Office investigators learned Zack Davis, 27-years-old, went hunting this morning with his three kids, (ages 2, 4, 6) and father, Bob Davis, 54-years-old, in the Quartzville road area above Green Peter Dam. All are from Sweet Home. Zack saw what he believed to be a deer and exited the pick-up. While walking back to his pick-up, there was an accidental discharge from Zack’s 30-30 rifle. The bullet entered the pick-up through the driver’s door. The round struck two of the children in the legs while seated in the back seat of the 2005 Dodge pick-up.
The two-year-old male was struck in the right leg above the ankle and this caused a leg fracture. He was transported to Lebanon Community Hospital by ambulance and then by air ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland. His condition is unknown at the time of this release, but the injuries appear to be non-life threatening.
The four-year-old female was struck in the left shin. She was transported by ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis. She had surgery to remove a metal fragment from her leg and is in stable condition.
The six-year-old child and Bob Davis were not injured. The Sweet Home Fire Department assisted with the incident. This investigation is on-going. Anyone with information please contact Detective Mike Harmon at 541-967-3950.
